Leadership Class Partners With Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for the 2007-2008 Class Project

The Chamber Leadership Class, sponsored by Adroit Construction Company Inc. and Providence Medford Medical Center, is proactively working on their community-wide service project to be completed by springtime.

This year, an incredible dynamic of diverse business professionals have partnered with Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), a non-profit organization that serves abused and neglected children in child welfare and court systems.

Thirty-three class members will make essential changes to the interior of CASA's building, resulting in a more functional and efficient work environment that will allow CASA to serve more children in our community. Upon completion of the project in May, the class will have enabled two additional CASA volunteers to work out of the Jackson County office, helping them serve an additional 200 children per year.

Jennifer Mylenek, Executive Director of CASA says that the level of dedication and professionalism exhibited by The Chamber Leadership Class is most appreciated and fills a critical need. "The only way we can begin to serve more abused and neglected children in Jackson County is through the expansion of volunteers and our functional office space. We are very lucky to have been chosen by the Leadership Class project this year."

CASA Facts:

CASA volunteers represent the needs of 450 abused and neglected children in Jackson County.

CASA volunteers have been serving the children of Jackson County since 1990.

CASA volunteers are appointed by the courts to advocate exclusively for the needs and best interest of individual abused and neglected children involved in the child welfare and court systems.

Children who have a CASA volunteer are 98 percent more likely not to return to foster care; have fewer foster care placements; have fewer risk factors; have better school performance; receive more services such as medical care; and have a greater likelihood of returning home.

In 2006, CASA volunteers gave a total of 11,500 hours.
