October  Greeter of the Month
Kathy Alexander, The Wedding Corner

Chamber has worked for me for 20 years. Before I was a business owner I had the privilege of representing my employers at Chamber events. Those of you who have known me all that time remember I did four of those years in a wheelchair with casts on my ankles.

I joined The Chamber the same month I opened my DJ and Event business in 2004. Over the last few years, the continued support of Chamber members helped me expand to The Wedding Corner. So many Chamber members are contributors to the services I can offer brides and grooms as they plan their weddings. The Editor of Southern Oregon Magazine recently called me the "Wedding Guru" of Jackson County. Weddings are not my only business - I can help with any event - big or small, personal or business, casual or elegant.

In my experience, consistency is the key. You have to get out there and meet people. I am really honored to be an Ambassador and never more so than when I was at Convention earlier this month. I was proud to represent the largest Chamber in Oregon and the generous members who gave so much to the baskets.

I am honored to be chosen Greeter of the Month as there are so many other members who also deserve the recognition. "Hosting an Event? Give Me a Call at The Wedding Corner."

Greeter of the Year
Bud Clardy, CentralPayment Corporation

Thank you for this distinction from The Chamber of Medford/Jackson County Greeters.  To be acknowledged by many whom I respect and consider my peers, I consider this to be an honor that I will live up to.

Lee Iacocca once said that if you cannot get along with people, then get the hell out of sales because that is all sales is.  The nice part about The Chamber is the positive group of people that you get to interact with each week.  Interacting with people in business is one art none of us will completely master.  We just get to work on it each week to become better.  The Chamber of Medford/Jackson County Greeters provides that positive atmosphere.  You get to interact with successful business people and yet still pick up more business.

After I got out of business college more years ago than I care to remember, I took several Dale Carnegie Courses.  An important principle I learned was to always be “Lavish in Your Praise and Sparse in Your Criticism.”  Greeter’s participants practice this principle.  Although at the time, I do very much enjoy the good-natured puns we throw at each other, as a good sense of humor is important, especially in this economy.

Business people who have been with a Chamber for a length of time reach a point where their actions precede any words they say.  The most important thing we have is not our business, house, or car; it is our good name, for without that, we have nothing.  The Chamber also works on that principal.  I am proud to be with such a great group of business people.
